FROM STAFF REPORTS

University of Montevallo men’s basketball head coach Danny Young announced the hiring of Jabarr Adams as his assistant coach July 26.

Adams comes to Montevallo after spending the last four seasons as assistant coach at Tarleton State University.

“I am excited Jabarr has joined our coaching staff,” Young said. “He brings a proven record of strong recruiting and on the court coaching. He comes from a well respected program at Tarleton and has previous experience in the Peach Belt Conference at UNC-Pembroke.”

Adams most recently has coached at Tarleton State University, a NCAA Division II and Lone Star Conference member. He helped lead the Texans to three-straight NCAA Division II Tournament appearances and saw the team capture the 2011-2012 Lone Star Conference Championship. The Texans have ranked first in the country the past two seasons in points allowed per game and have a combined record of 93-28 over the past four seasons.

Adams has helped develop four players who have gone on to play professionally overseas. He was a part of all aspects of the program including recruiting, on court coaching and academic advising. He served as the director of team travel, scheduling and film exchange.

Prior to Tarleton State, Adams spent two seasons as an assistant coach at UNC-Pembroke. He also played two seasons at UNC-Pembroke, where he earned the Joe Gallagher Captain award in 2006 and the Lacey Gane “Mr. Plus” award in 2004.

Adams is a 2006 graduate of UNC Pembroke with a bachelor’s degree in social work. He earned his master’s degree in physical education sport administration from UNC-Pembroke in 2008.

The hiring of Adams completes the men’s basketball coaching staff for the Falcons, who reached the NCAA Division II National Championship contest for the first time in school history last season.
