Future Falcon wins Alabama Open

Conner Godsey, who will play collegiate golf at the University of Montevallo this fall, continued his terrific play at Ol’ Colony Golf Complex on his way to victory July 29 in the Alabama Open, sponsored by Yamaha Golf Car Company.
Godsey’s three rounds were 67-67-73 to finish at 9-under par 207. The outcome was never in doubt as Godsey took a 10-stroke lead into the final round and held on to win by seven strokes over Alex Mahlik.
Mahlik was the only other player to break par with a final round of 69 to finish at 2-under 214.
In the senior division, Rea Schuessler made four birdies on his final nine holes to overtake second round leader Ricky Smallridge for the title.
Neil Thompson of Helena finished fifth in the Alabama Open with his 4-over par 220 in the three-round tournament.

Robby Prater, a recent Spain Park High School graduate, finished 17th overall in individual standings with his 11 over par 227.

Ed Davis of Montevallo finished fifth in the Alabama Open senior division after carding a tournament total 4-over par 220.

Ol’ Colony was the host of the Alabama Open for the second consecutive year and Yamaha Golf Car sponsored the event for the third year in a row.
