FROM STAFF REPORTS

The Shelby County Historical Society will display Shelby County’s historical offerings at the Alabama Genealogical Society’s national conference Aug. 29-Sept. 1 at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center.

“Come find your ancestors who traveled in ‘these parts.’ Over 160 different educational sessions and exhibitors from all over the United States provide a great venue to learn and network with researchers just like you,” stated a release from the Alabama Genealogical Society.

Tap your foot to great music of Bobby Horton in the grandeur of the Alabama Theater, the Great Showplace of the South; eat delicious barbecue at historic Sloss Furnace, one of the last great iron furnaces and experience history seeing the iron pipe being made, the release stated.

Bobby Joe Seales, president of the Shelby County Historical Society, will serve during this conference as an Alabama goodwill ambassador. He will be dressed in his top hat and regalia.
