University of Montevallo volleyball head coach Katie O’Brien announced the hiring of Sean Clemmensen as assistant coach for the Falcons on Aug. 6.

Clemmensen joins Montevallo after serving the past three years at Berry College in Georgia.

“While at Montevallo, I believe Sean will be able to translate his vast volleyball experiences to the DII level”, O’Brien said. “We strive to recruit the best student-athletes to our program and compete at a high level while maintaining life in balance. Sean understands that and I think he will work hard and contribute to our program immediately.”

Clemmensen spent the 2012 season as an assistant coach at Berry after serving as a graduate assistant in the two previous seasons. During his tenure, he assisted in recruiting, strength and conditioning and on-floor coaching. Prior to Berry, he served four years as a student assistant coach at Coastal Carolina University, where the team finished 27-9 in his senior year and tied for first place in the Big South Conference regular season and were runners-up in the Big South Tournament. In addition, he has also served as a head coach at the juniors’ level.

“I am excited to work with Coach O’Brien and the entire athletic department at the University of Montevallo”, Clemmensen said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to bring my skills and knowledge of volleyball to the program and help guide the Falcons towards a Peach Belt Conference Championship.”

Clemmensen is a 2008 graduate of Coastal Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, and earned his Master’s in Business Administration from Berry in 2011. An involved student, Clemmensen was the founder and president of the Coastal Carolina men’s volleyball club team. He also served as the volunteer coach for both the men’s and women’s club volleyball teams.

Montevallo will open its 40th year of intercollegiate volleyball this fall at the seventh annual Lions Classic at Saint Leo University on Aug. 31.
