MONTEVALLO – Montevallo First Baptist Church recently hired a new youth pastor.

Lance Moore graduated from Samford University in 2007 with a degree in economics. He worked in project management for a few years before feeling a call to attend seminary.

“I was involved with the youth at my last church, Westwood Baptist in Forestdale. It progressed from there. I was asked to teach Sunday school,” Moore said. “I prayed about it and felt like I should go to seminary. I just got out of four years of school and going back was terrorizing to me at first.”

Moore enrolled at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary at the Church at Brook Hills, where he has been studying for about a year.

Moore and his wife, Katie, currently live in Fultondale, but plan to move to Calera soon.

In addition to serving the church, Moore works part time in social media, marketing and web development.

“I want to help the students and teach them about who God is,” Moore said. “I want to help them to be disciples themselves. I’d like to get the community involved and have them come to social events and activities like that.”

Moore accepted the part-time youth pastor position three to four months ago.

“Things are going really well,” Moore said of the youth group. “The students are active and loving learning the word. They love being able to participate in activities. People have been really welcome in the church. It’s been a friendly welcome to me and my wife.”

Montevallo First Baptist Church offers Wednesday night services at 6:30 p.m., Sunday morning Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. and Sunday night program at 6:30 p.m. For more information, visit Montevallofbc.com.
