The Pelham Police Department has charged a Montevallo man and two Pelham men with murder after a 25-year-old man died following an Aug. 12 incident at a local bar.

Police arrested 30-year-old Oscar Adonay Alvarenga of Montevallo and Pelham residents  Jose Armando Erazo-Acosta, 38, and Pedro Edgardo Portillo, 37.

Erazo-Acosta and Portillo were arrested on Aug. 21 and Alvarenga surrendered himself to the Pelham Police Department on Aug. 22. All three are now incarcerated at the Shelby County Jail, and have each been charged with counts of murder.

The arrests came after Emilio Alozo was pronounced dead after police responded to a wreck on U.S. 31 near Valley Elementary School during the early morning hours of Aug. 12.

When police arrived on the scene Aug. 12, they discovered 25-year-old Emilio Alozo in the vehicle.

“When we responded to the scene, we discovered that the injuries the subject (in the vehicle) had were not consistent with the nature of the accident,” Palmer said, noting Alozo was traveling from a local bar when the wreck happened.

Emergency responders then transported Alozo to UAB Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, Palmer said.

As of Aug. 23, police were still investigating the incident.
