Perkins to serve another term as Harpersville mayor

HARPERSVILLE — Theoangelo Perkins will continue his tenure as the Harpersville Mayor after defeating Don Greene in a municipal election Aug. 28.

Perkins received 54 percent of the votes cast in the mayoral race.  Perkins received 296 out of a total 541 votes in the mayoral election. Challenger Don Greene received 245 total votes.

Perkins thanked Harpersville citizens for having faith in him to continue leading the town.

“We have a wonderful town,” Perkins said. “We want to recruit businesses. We want to improve our city services and run a clean and transparent government. That’s our goal.”

In races for town council positions, Sheila Kidd Rich defeated incumbent Roy Wood for the District 2, Place 1 position. Rich received 67 percent of the votes, and 232 out of 344 total votes. Wood received 112 total votes.

Rich said she is excited to serve on the Harpersville town council.

“Harpersville is my home,” Rich said. “I will do everything in my power to do what is right for Harpersville. I want to restore pride to Harpersville.”

Incumbent William Rayfield edged David Sanders in District 2, Place 2. Rayfield received 60 percent of the votes, and 209 out of 346 total votes. Sanders received 137 total votes.

Rayfield said he is proud to continue his tenure on the town council.

“I certainly appreciate the support of the people,” Rayfield said.

Incumbent Beverly Johson ran unopposed in District 1, Place 1. Incumbent Shirley Middleton ran unopposed in District 1, Place 2.

Incumbent Janet Gill ran unopposed in District 2, Place 3.
