LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team defeated West Alabama 1-0 in a match against a former Gulf South Conference rival Sept. 5.

Pierre Omanga netted his second goal of the season just more than one minute into the match to lift the Falcons to victory.

The Falcons (2-1) saw two corner kick opportunities early and capitalized on one of them just more than one minute into the match.

Roussin Nkoy took the feed from Stefan Vaziri on the corner kick and sent the ball to Omanga, who fired a shot past the West Alabama goalkeeper to give Montevallo an early 1-0 advantage.

“I think it was good for us to score early in the game,” Omanga said. “It helped us to play free.”

The Montevallo defense limited the West Alabama scoring chances in the second half, which helped goalkeeper Jonathan Oprandy post his first shutout of the season.

Oprandy had only one scare in the second half before he chased down a ball that sailed over his head just in time before a West Alabama forward had a clean look at the net.
