CHELSEA – The Oak Mountain volleyball team used big rallies in each of the three games against Chelsea to pick up a 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-12) win on Sept 6 on the road in Class 6A, Area 8 play.

The Eagles (10-0) trailed 7-4 early in the first game of the match, but came back to even with Chelsea at 9-9 on a Hornet hitting error. That error started an 11-0 Oak Mountain rally led by four Hannah Kowal aces to take control of the set with a 19-9 score.

Oak Mountain sealed up the 25-12 first set win on a 6-3 run.

Chelsea (5-4, 2-1) didn’t allow the ending of the previous game derail their confidence and battled the Eagles to a 10-10 score in the second set. The Eagles never led by more than four points in the late stages of the frame until they closed on a 5-0 run to take a 25-17 second set win.

The Hornets jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the third with Holly Marbut leading the way with a pair of kills. The lead exchanged hands twice before Oak Mountain began to pull away on a 5-0 rally to take a 11-7 advantage. The Eagles sealed up the match with a 13-1 run for a 25-12 third set win.

Marbut led Chelsea with nine kills with five digs. Freshman Madison Turner added eight kills with a team-high 11 assists. Courtney Campbell had 10 assists and eight digs while Emma Cotney led the defense with 15 digs.

Kowal finished with 12 kills, 11 digs and four aces to lead Oak Mountain. Emily Cosgrove scored 12 kills and nine digs with Rosemary Wendel leading the Eagles with 15 assists. Amy Ritenour finished with 14 digs.
