Pelham wins Mid South tourney

The Pelham Panthers volleyball team lost only one set in route to capturing the 2012 Mid South Tournament championship on Saturday, Sept. 8 at Thompson High School.
Pelham (6-8) swept through pool play defeating Tuscaloosa County (25-22, 25-16), Ramsay (25-14, 25-13) and Spain Park (25-22, 25-23). Caitland Smith led the way for Pelham accounting for 31 kills in the first three games of the day.
The Panthers took on Walker in the semifinals and won in three games, 25-21, 22-25, 15-9. Smith scored 12 kills to vault Pelham to the championship match with Hayley Brisendine adding nine digs.
The title game of the Mid South tournament featured a rematch of the pool play game between Pelham and Spain Park. The Panthers claimed the championship by sweeping the Jaguars 25-23, 25-20. Smith, Autumn Wild-Hiett and Ja’don Christian each tallied four kills with Lauren Meadows leading the defense with eight digs.
Lauren Bass had eight kills in the championship game for the Panthers.
