MONTEVALLO – Fresh off an appearance in the NCAA Division II National Championship game, the University of Montevallo men’s basketball team will take on an ambitious schedule during the 2012-2013 season.

The Falcons will open the season Oct. 30 in West Lafayette, Ind. in an exhibition game against Purdue University, a member of the Big 10 conference coming off an appearance in the NCAA Division I Tournament.

Montevallo will travel to Oxford, Miss. to face Southeastern Conference member Ole Miss in its second exhibition game Nov. 5.

“It’s exciting to play teams in the Big 10 and SEC and play in front of all of their fans,” said Montevallo coach Danny Young. “It’s a great opportunity for our players.”

The Falcons’ schedule features 26 regular-season contests in addition to the two high-profile exhibition games.

Montevallo will open the regular season Nov. 13 with a home game against Stillman College at Bank Trust Arena.

The Falcons will also host Tennessee Wesleyan, Tuskegee and West Florida at home and will travel to Anderson, Stillman and Tuskegee in the non-conference portion of the schedule.

The Falcons will open Peach Belt Conference play Nov. 15 with a home game against Columbus State. Montevallo will travel to Augusta State two days later for its first road contest in Peach Belt Conference play.

Montevallo will play a total of 19 conference games, including its regular season finale March 2 at home against Peach Belt Conference newcomer Young Harris.

The Falcons return three players who started in the NCAA Division II National Championship game and helped the team to the Southeast Region Championship and a 29-8 mark during the 2011-2012 season.
