CALERA – The University of Montevallo men’s golf team carries a seven-stroke lead into the final round of the Full Moon Invitational, its first tournament of the season, on Sept. 18 at Timberline Golf Club.

The Falcons’ first of two entries in the tournament, who collectively carded a team score of 1-under par 283 in the opening round Sept. 17, were led by freshman Dalton Skinner. Skinner, who fired a 3-under par 68 in the first round, leads all 35 golfers in the tournament’s individual standings.

“I’ve been looking forward to the beginning of the year, knowing we should have a pretty strong group of guys that can all contribute,” said Montevallo coach Justin Pratt. “Being able to shoot 1-under as a team is the best start we’ve had in four years. Hopefully that trend will continue.”

Junior Conner Godsey posted a 1-under par 70 in his first tournament as a member of the Montevallo men’s golf team, which left him in a tie for second place overall in individual standings after the opening round. Senior Andrew Lowery finished with a 1-over par 72 in the opening round and is currently tied for ninth place in individual standings, while fellow senior Austin Murphey carded a 2-over par 73 and sits in a tie for 12th in individual standings.

Freshman Jordan Campbell rounded out the first group of Montevallo golfers with his 6-over par 77. The Falcons lead second-place Shorter University, which collectively carded a 290 on the first day of the tournament.

Montevallo’s second entry in the tournament is currently seventh in team standings after the opening round.

Freshman Daniel Schroder led the Falcons with his 2-over par 73. Junior Micah Jett carded a 4-over par 75, while sophomore Juan Noce finished with a 6-over par 77.

Junior Sindre Rambjoer and freshman Juan Noce, who each shot a 9-over par 80 in the opening round, rounded out the group.

Montevallo will close out the tournament’s final round Sept. 18 with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
