KANSAS CITY, Kansas – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team joined the women’s soccer team in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s NCAA Division II Southeast Region polls Sept. 18.

The Falcons debut this week at No. 7 in the region rankings following a pair of shutouts last week. The Falcons (4-2) defeated UAH 10-0 in a non-conference match before topping previously undefeated and nationally-ranked UNC Pembroke 3-0 in their Peach Belt Conference opener Sept. 15.

“I think it’s nice recognition,” said Montevallo men’s soccer coach Ken Hassler. “It reflects on all of our hard work. We’re excited about how well we’re playing right now.”

Montevallo sophomore forward Pierre Omanga is currently among the leading goal scorers in the Peach Belt Conference with five goals. Omanga is tied for second on the list in the conference behind Ado Junuzovic, who leads the Peach Belt Conference with seven goals.

Montevallo junior goalkeeper Brendan Ledgeway, who was recently named the Peach Belt Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, is also among conference leaders with his .40 goals against average and .875 save percentage, which places him second behind USC Aiken’s Joshua Poissant and his perfect .00 goals against average and 1.000 save percentage mark.

The Falcons returns to action Sept. 22 with a home match against Peach Belt Conference opponent Francis Marion University at 7 p.m.
