Evangel cruises past Ballard Christian

AUBURN – The Evangel Christian Lightning controlled their game against Ballard Christian from the very beginning in a 47-12 victory on the road.

“The offense and defense came out clicking tonight,” said Evangel head coach Del Clayton.

The Lightning had three possessions before the Ballard offense ever touched the ball. David Baggett put Evangel Christian on the board with just a 1:30 taken off the clock when he broke for a 24-yard run to give the Lightning a 7-0 lead.

After an onside kick recovery, Evangel’s Nate Scott rushed in from 31 yards out to extend the lead to 14-0.

The Lightning picked up their third touchdown of the first period when Andrew Thompson found with Josh Letson on a 1-yard pass for a 21-0 lead.

Brandon Montgomery began the scoring for ECS just 58 seconds into the period with a 1-yard score for a 28-0 lead.

Thompson threw his second touchdown of the game when he found Baggett on a 50-yard score for a 35-0 lead.

Mason Murphy rounded out the first half scoring for Evangel on a 1-yard touchdown for a 41-0 halftime edge.

Nate Scott picked up his second score on a 13-yard run for a 47-0 lead at the end of the third.

Ballard scored all 12 of their points in the fourth quarter.

Thompson finished the game with 139 yards passing with two touchdowns while Scott led ECS rushers with 78 yards and two scores.
