ALABASTER – The Lee-Scott Academy Warriors jumped out to a 34-0 lead at halftime to take a 54-6 victory over the home standing Kingwood Christian Lions on Sept. 28.

Lee-Scott Academy, ranked No. 5 in the AISA by the Alabama Sports Writers Association, came out tough on the Lions according to head coach Bob Spurgeon.

“Lee-Scott is a good team, a physical team,” said Spurgeon. “We didn’t play well or execute well. They just beat us and we didn’t play our A-game.”

The Lions were coming off two straight road wins and were playing at home for the first time in three weeks.

“We wanted to play better in front of our home crowd,” Spurgeon said. “We will go back on the road and try to get back in the win column.”

Kingwood Christian’s lone score came in the third quarter when quarterback Gavin Sumrall connected with junior wide receiver Montez Haynes on an 18-yard touchdown pass. The Lions missed on the point after touchdown attempt.

The Lions will return to the road when they travel to Lyman Ward on Oct. 5. Lee-Scott Academy will travel to East Memorial.

Kingwood falls to 3-3 on the season and 0-3 in Class 3A, Region 1 play. Lee-Scott improves to 5-1 on the season and 3-1 in region play.
