Montevallo men’s soccer remains ranked in NSCAA region poll

KANSAS CITY, Kansas – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team remained ranked in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division II Southeast Region poll, which was released Oct. 2.

The Falcons dropped two spots to No. 7 in the rankings after splitting a pair of Peach Belt Conference matches last week. Montevallo’s highest ranking so far this season came last week, when the Falcons were ranked No. 5 in the poll.

Montevallo (6-3 overall, 3-1 in Peach Belt Conference) defeated Clayton State University 2-0 in a road match Sept. 26 before falling to Lander University 3-2 in double overtime in a home contest Sept. 29.

Sophomore forward Pierre Omanga is currently ranked second among goal scorers in the Peach Belt Conference with eight goals this season.  Omanga is currently ranked 15th nationally in total goals scored in NCAA Division II men’s soccer.

Sophomore midfielder Giuliano Frano is currently tied for 5th in the Peach Belt Conference with five assists, which also ranks him 19th overall in assists in NCAA Division II men’s soccer.

Junior goalkeeper Brendan Ledgeway is currently second overall in the Peach Belt Conference with his 0.61 goals against average, which also ranks in the top 15 nationally in NCAA Division II men’s soccer. Ledgeway is third among conference goalkeepers with a .815 save percentage.

The Falcons are one of the top defensive teams in NCAA Division II men’s soccer with six shutouts this season.

Montevallo returns to action with a Peach Belt Conference match Oct. 3 on the road at North Georgia at 6:30 p.m. The Falcons take on Peach Belt Conference leader Flagler College, currently ranked No. 1 in the NSCAA Southeast Region poll, in a home conference match Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Varsity Field.
