Montevallo men’s soccer duo earn conference awards

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Members of the University of Montevallo men’s soccer team captured two of the three weekly men’s soccer awards handed out by the Peach Belt Conference on Oct. 8 following the Falcons’ 4-1 win over nationally ranked Flagler College.
Montevallo junior goalkeeper Brendan Ledgeway captured his second Goalkeeper of the Week award this season, while sophomore forward Pierre Omanga was named the Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
Ledgeway allowed just one goal, on a penalty kick, in the second half in the victory over Flagler. Flagler entered the match with the most goals scored among Peach Belt Conference members this season. Ledgeway finished with three saves in the win.
Ledgeway, a native of York, England, also posted two saves while allowing one goal in a 1-1 tie with North Georgia in a conference match Oct. 3.
Ledgeway leads the Peach Belt Conference with a 0.67 goals against average and five shutouts. Ledgeway is currently third in the conference with a .794 save percentage.
Omanga scored one goal and assisted on two other goals in the Falcons victory over Flagler.
The Paris, France native gave Montevallo a 1-0 lead in the third minute of the contest, catching the Flagler defense off guard with a chip shot over the Saints’ goalkeeper for his team-leading ninth goal of the season.
Omanga attempted just two shots against Flagler, scoring a goal in his only shot on goal attempt in the victory. Omanga also assisted on a goal in the 53rd minute and a goal in the 82nd minute against the Saints.
Omanga is now tied for second in the Peach Belt Conference with nine goals this season. Omanga is currently fourth in the conference with 20 points.
The Falcons return to action Oct. 10 when they host Georgia Southwestern State University in a Peach Belt Conference contest at 7:30 p.m. at Varsity Field.
