Montevallo men’s soccer defeats Georgia Southwestern in conference match

MONTEVALLO – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team won its second consecutive Peach Belt Conference match Oct. 10 after knocking off visiting Georgia Southwestern State University 2-0 at Varsity Field.

The Falcons (8-3-1 overall, 5-1-1 in Peach Belt Conference) scored a pair of goals in the second half to pick up their fifth conference win of the season.

Junior Jackson Tolleson gave Montevallo a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute of the match with his goal off an assist from senior Shane Howard.

The Falcons pushed their lead to 2-0 when sophomore Pierre Omanga netted his 10th goal of the season off an assist from fellow sophomore Giuliano Frano in the 88th minute of the contest.

Junior goalkeeper Brendan Ledgeway posted his sixth shutout of the season in the victory.

Montevallo, which is ranked No. 4 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division II Southeast Region poll, returns to action Oct. 13 with a Peach Belt Conference match on the road at USC Aiken at 2:30 p.m.
