Sophomore leads Falcons in Rendleman Invitational first round

SALISBURY, N.C. – Sophomore Ashlee Beck led the University of Montevallo women’s golf team in the opening round of the Patsy Rendleman Invitational tournament Oct. 15 at the Country Club of Salisbury in Salisbury, N.C.

Beck shot a 7-over par 79 in the opening round, which helped the Falcons collectively post a score of 334 strokes, which puts Montevallo in 11th place in standings after the opening round. Host Newberry College leads the tournament with a score of 294 strokes.

Beck’s 7-over par 79 in the first round places her in a tie for 19th overall in individual standings in the tournament.

Juniors Hilary Shaner and Kira Chaudhry each carded a 12-over par 84 in the opening round, which places the duo in a tie for 46th overall in individual standings. Freshman Morgan Natale, who is currently tied for 60th in individual standings, finished with a 15-over par 87 in the first round.

Senior Kayla Witt rounded out the group of Montevallo golfers with her 17-over par 89, which places her in a tie for 79th overall in individual standings after the first round.

The Falcons will compete in the final round of the Patsy Rendleman Invitational tournament Oct. 16.
