FROM STAFF REPORTS

The Alabama Department of Transportation this week will be closing lanes on Alabama 261 in Pelham and Helena and on Alabama 70 in Calera and Columbiana.

ALDOT will close the northbound lane of Alabama 261 between Old Town Helena and the road’s intersection with U.S. 31 in Pelham from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. beginning on Oct. 15. The closure will be held each day until the night of Oct. 19-20, according to an ALDOT road advisory.

The department will also close the eastbound lane of Alabama 70 from .05 miles east of U.S. 31 in Calera to .06 miles west of Shelby County 25 in Columbiana from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. each day from Oct. 15-19.

The lane closures are necessary to complete repaving operations on both roads. ALDOT crews will divert traffic onto the open lanes on Alabama 70 and Alabama 261 during the closures.
