Calera tops Oak Grove, 35-14

OAK GROVE – The Calera Eagles overcame a slow start to cruise to a 35-14 road win over Oak Grove on Oct. 19 in Class 4A, Region 4 action.

Calera senior quarterback Zack Reneau threw for 111 yards and two touchdowns on 10-of-11passing. Reneau added 93 yards rushing with a touchdown.

“Zack picked it up and did well,” said Calera head coach Wiley McKeller on his senior signal caller.

Junior Ronnie Clark added 72 yards rushing on five carries for the Eagles with two scores.

Jordan Bishop led the receivers with four receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown. Shakeith Tyes also caught a touchdown pass on 33 yards receiving while leading all rushers with 96 yards on 12 carries.

Calera will conclude Region 4 play on the road at Jemison with a home playoff game on the line.

“Everything hinges on the playoffs,” said McKeller. “We need to do well to host a playoff game and the kids are going to prepare.”
