William P. “Bill” Doyle

Retired Sgt. Maj. William P. “Bill” Doyle, age 68, left this earth in the early morning hours of Oct. 19, 2012, after a brief illness. The 2 p.m. funeral service was Oct. 21 at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham with burial in Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
Mr. Doyle was preceded in death by father, Aubrey G. Doyle; mother, Helen P. Doyle; and brother, Aubrey G. Doyle Jr. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Patricia “Pat” Doyle; sons, David Doyle (Allison), Jim Doyle (Elizabeth), Mark Hutter (Cindy) and Tuan “Chop” Nguyen; grandchildren, Erin Hutter, David “DJ” Doyle, Avery Nguyen, Will Hutter, Jessica Doyle, Rebecca Doyle, Alex Nguyen and Jackson Doyle; and sisters, Patricia Brundage and Betty Forman.
Mr. Doyle retired from Alabama Power Company with over 26 years of service. A long-time member of the Alabama Army National Guard, he retired after 38 years of service in 2004 at the rank of Sergeant Major. A Vietnam veteran, he mobilized in the days directly following the events of Sept. 11, 2001, in support of the Department of Homeland Defense and the United States Northern Command. Military awards included Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 device.
His volunteer work included serving as the Treasurer for the Corporate Energizers Retirees of Alabama Power Company and as an active member of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) where he was the proud recipient of the 2012 Spirit of Volunteerism Award.
