Montevallo City Council minutes for the week of Oct. 24

The Montevallo City Council held a runoff election vote canvassing meeting Oct. 16, 2012 at noon at city hall.

Attendees: Mayor Ben McCrory and Council members Sharon Gilbert, Rusty Nix, Hollie Cost and Willie Goldsmith. Council Member Dee Woodham was absent.

Mayor McCrory opened the canvassing meeting at noon. He announced that a quorum was present.

The city clerk reviewed the election results with the council, and they reviewed the machine tapes. The tapes were in order. Council Member Nix then read the results of the provisional ballots. Hollie Cost – 7; Ben McCrory -2; Don Hughes – 4; and Jason Peterson – 1.

The updated totals were as follows:

The runoff election for the City of Montevallo was duly and legally held on Oct. 9, 2012, as provided by law. The municipal governing body of the city of Montevallo met Oct. 16, a quorum thereof being present, at noon, and has canvassed the returns, and has ascertained and determined the number of votes received by each candidate.

The said municipal governing body has ascertained and determined the result of said election as follows:

TOTAL MAYOR (ALL POLLS)

Hollie Cost: 452 + 7 Provisional Votes = 459

Ben McCrory: 394 + 2 Provisional Votes = 396

TOTAL CITY COUNCIL DIST. 4

Don Hughes: 11+ 4 Provisional Votes = 115

Jason W. Peterson: 99+ 1 Provisional Votes = 100

1. That Hollie Cost received a majority of the votes cast for the office of Mayor and is hereby declared duly elected to that office for the term beginning on the first Monday in November 2012.

2. That Don Hughes received a majority of the votes cast for the office of Councilmember, District 4 and is hereby declared duly elected to that office for the term beginning on the first Monday in November 2012.

Adopted Oct. 16, 2012

Council Member Gilbert made a motion to approve the Resolution. Council Member Nix seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

There being no other business before the council, the meeting adjourned at 12:09 p.m.
