Falcons top Lander in conference match

LANDER, S.C. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team defeated Lander University 3-1 on the road in a Peach Belt Conference match Oct. 27.

The Falcons picked up a 25-22 win in the opening set before dropping the second set 26-24. Montevallo (12-13 overall, 4-6 in Peach Belt Conference) closed out the match with a 25-23 win in the third set and a 25-16 win in the fourth set.

“We have played well the past couple of matches,” said Montevallo coach Katie O’Brien. “We are coming together as a team.”

Sophomore Michelle Walker led the Falcons with a career-high 28 kills in the victory. Junior Michelle Carle added 14 kills and a team-high four blocks.

Junior Manyi Ati contributed nine kills, while sophomore Brianna Guzinski chipped in seven kills and 16 digs.

Freshman Briana Marquez finished with 17 digs to go along with a career-high 55 assists in the match. Junior Kaleigh Harvey led Montevallo with 28 digs, while freshman Jessica Falletta posted 10 digs.

The Falcons return to action Oct. 29 with a doubleheader in Bristol, Tenn. Montevallo will face King College at 1 p.m. before taking on Concord University in a 3 p.m. match.
