Montevallo men’s soccer drops heartbreaker against Young Harris

MONTEVALLO – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team closed out its regular season with a 1-0 loss in double overtime to visiting Young Harris College in a Peach Belt Conference match Oct. 27.

Lewis Hilton of Young Harris netted the golden goal in the 101st minute of the match. Following a shot off the post by Andreas Pechmann on a free kick in front of the Montevallo net, Hilton fired a rebound attempt past Falcons’ goalkeeper Brendan Ledgewayto clinch the victory.

Ledgeway finished with five saves in the match.

Sophomore Pedro Carneiro led the Falcons (10-4-2 overall, 6-2-1 in Peach Belt Conference) with four shot attempts in the match. Junior Ricky Davey and sophomore Giuliano Frano finished with three shot attempts each.

The Falcons’ five seniors, including Stephen BeattyStefan VaziriShane HowardMike Rinzema and Patrick Dean, were each honored before the match.

Montevallo will host an opponent to be determined in a Peach Belt Conference tournament quarterfinal match Oct. 30. The winner will advance to a conference tournament semifinal match Nov. 2 in Evans, Ga.
