AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of Montevallo sophomore Michelle Walker was named the Peach Belt Conference volleyball Player of the Week for the second time in her career Oct. 29 after helping the Falcons pick up a pair of conference victories last week.

Walker was also named the conference Player of the Week during the opening week of her freshman season in 2011.

Walker finished the week with 61 kills, including a 4.36 kills per set average, and a .340 attacking percentage.

“This has been a good week for UM volleyball,” said Montevallo coach Katie O’Brien. “It takes everyone doing their job to put Michelle in the position of making her career-high kills. She was on fire this week.”

The Houston, Texas native posted a career-high 28 kills to help the Falcons pick up their fourth Peach Belt Conference victory this season following a 3-1 win on the road at Lander University in a conference match Oct. 27. Walker’s 28 kills ties her for second place in the Montevallo record book with Caycee Hess for most kills in a single match. Taylor Chapman owns the school record with 29 kills in a single match set in 2010.

Walker opened the week with 16 kills in the Falcons’ 3-2 win over Augusta State in a conference match Oct. 23. Walker also posted 17 kills in the Falcons’ 3-2 setback on the road at USC Aiken in a conference match Oct. 26.

Walker is currently tied for third among Peach Belt Conference hitters with a 3.19 kills per set average. Walker is 10th among conference hitters with a .267 hitting percentage.

Walker and her teammates return to action Nov. 2 with a Peach Belt Conference match at BankTrust Arena at 6 p.m.
