Pelham’s Strozier wins 6A sectional

NORTH SHELBY – Pelham’s Mary Grace Strozier took home the Section 4, Class 6A championship on Nov. 1 to lead Shelby County runners on their way to the state meet.

Strozier and Erin Landa both qualified for the state championship meet from Pelham while the team from Oak Mountain made the meet since the Lady Eagles finished third in the team standings.

Hoover and Vestavia Hills teams finished first and second respectively to move on to the Nov. 10 state meet.

Cheyenne Thompson, Camryn Neal and Katlyn Coley of Chelsea qualified for the state meet with third, fourth and 11th place finishes respectively. Jessica Bilek of Spain Park also qualified for the state meet.

Mark Ferrell led the Spain Park boys’ team to a third place finish to allow the Jaguars a chance to run in the Class 6A meet. Ferrell took third with a time of 17:08.48.

Jordan Strong rounded out Jaguar runners in the top-10 with a sixth place finish.

Pelham’s Andrew Givan led Shelby County individual runners that moved on to the state meet. Givan took sixth while Thompson’s Michael Johnson finished 11th to qualify for a spot at state. Jake Van Geffen (Oak Mountain), Alex Coleman (Thompson) and Tyler Treadwell (Pelham) also clinched a spot at the state meet.
