Montevallo senior claims NCAA Division II region championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – University of Montevallo senior Kaley Glover will compete in the NCAA Division II National Championship race after claiming the individual title at the Southeast Region 6K race Nov. 3, which was hosted by Queens University.

Glover claimed the individual championship with her time of 22:40.4. Glover, who will compete in the National Championship race as an individual, edged Keeley Wood of Wingate University by nearly 14 seconds to capture the region title. Glover will compete in the NCAA Division II National Championship race Nov. 17 in Joplin, Mo.

Glover’s time is the third fastest 6K time recorded in school history.

“Kaley ran an unbelievable race,” said Montevallo cross country coach Tommy Barksdale. “She did an unbelievable job.”

The Falcons finished seventh in team standings in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region race, just missing out on a return trip to the National Championship race. Peach Belt Conference rival Columbus State University claimed the team championship at the region race.

Fellow senior Haley Evans came in eighth overall in individual standings with her time of 23:12.6. Evans’ time is the sixth fastest 6K time recorded in school history.

Sophomore Lauren Recchia finished with a time of 24:06.4, which placed her 42nd overall in individual standings. Junior In-Mi Matsunaga came in 53rd overall in individual standings with a time of 24:31.6.

Sophomore Katie Vanover finished with a time of 27:17.9, which placed her 141st overall in individual standings. Freshman Brooke Graham rounded out the group of Montevallo runners with her time of 30:42.2, which placed her 177th overall in individual standings.
