Frances Nybeck Anthony Smitherman Albright

Montevallo

Frances Nybeck Anthony Smitherman Albright, of Montevallo, passed away on Nov. 7, 2012. Born March 21, 1925, she was preceded in death by her parents, Glennie and Fred Nybeck; her husbands, Harold Anthony and Bill Smitherman; her step-son-in-law, Joel Ray Wood Sr.; and step-grandson, Joel Ray Wood Jr.

Mrs. Albright is survived by her husband, F. Jack Albright; her children, Joan Pickett (Mike) of Montevallo, Beth Anthony of Homewood and Glenn Anthony (Tracy) of Miami, Fla.; her grandchildren, Lori Culpepper (Robert) of Montevallo and Josh and Becky Anthony of Miami; and her sister-in-law, Judy Jones (George) of Montevallo. She is also survived by eight step-children, Joe Smitherman, Tom Smitherman (Glenda), Clay Smitherman (Stephanie), Jackie Burnett (Tom), Sherry Vallides and Terry Gregg, all of Montevallo, Karen Wood of Alabaster and Scott Smitherman (Deedra) of Helena; 17 step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Albright was a lifelong resident of Montevallo. She attended Alabama College (University of Montevallo) and received undergraduate and graduate degrees in education. She was a teacher, guidance counselor and assistant principal at Montevallo High School and principal at Montevallo Middle School. After her retirement from public education in 1986, she worked in the foreign language department at the University of Montevallo.

Mrs. Albright was a member of Montevallo Presbyterian Church where she was organist for 50 years. She belonged to many organizations including Centrala Garden Club, Montevallo Study Club, Yo-Ma-So, bridge club and SCERA. She also served on the Foundation Board for Parnell Memorial Library.

Visitation will be Nov. 10 from 10-11 a.m. at Rockco’s Funeral Home in Montevallo with a graveside service at 11 a.m. at Montevallo Cemetery. Rev. Leanne Pearce Reed will officiate.
