BIRMINGHAM – A man in downtown Birmingham cut a Montevallo woman’s face with a box cutter when she requested the return of her cell phone Nov. 4.

The 19-year-old victim, whose name has not been released by Birmingham Police, was approached by a man near the intersection of Court I and Vinesville Road in Birmingham around 1 p.m., according to Birmingham Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Johnny Williams.

Williams said the man asked the woman if he could use her cell phone. She gave the man her phone.

“He started to walk away with the phone,” Williams said. “She said, ‘Hey, give me my phone back.’ He turned and grabbed her and cut her on the face and left. He had a box cutter and cut her on the face.”

The woman’s injuries were not life-threatening, and the suspect has not been apprehended, according to Williams.
