UM student arrested in cat deaths case

MONTEVALLO – A University of Montevallo student was arrested in the case of cats found dead of unnatural causes on the UM campus.

Montevallo resident Christian Todd Slaton, 19, was arrested by UM Police and booked into the Shelby County Jail Nov. 6. Slaton was charged with four counts of animal cruelty first degree. He posted bond Nov. 6 in the amount of $20,000, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office inmate listing.

According to previous reports, UM Police discovered three dead cats on the UM campus, one at the “Becoming” statue, one at Flower Hill and the third near the flagpole on Main Quad in October.

Slaton, who was not a UM resident, was suspended and prohibited from returning to campus Oct. 31.
