Four men’s soccer players named to Daktronics All-Region teams

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Four members of the University of Montevallo men’s soccer team were named to the Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region teams, which were announced Nov. 19.

Junior goalkeeper Brendan Ledgeway, junior defender Gary O’Neill and freshman forward Pierre Omanga were each named first team All-Southeast Region. Senior defender Mike Rinzema was named second team All-Southeast Region.

A junior from York, England, Ledgeway was also named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year and first team All-Peach Belt Conference after leading conference goalkeepers with a 0.65 goals against average. Ledgeway also finished second among conference goalkeepers with a .817 save percentage while posting 10 shutouts this season.

Omanga, a Paris, France native, was named first team All-Peach Belt Conference after finishing in a two-way tie with Niall McCabe of Young Harris College as the leading goal scorers in the conference with 15 goals this season.

Omanga also netted five game-winning goals during his first season of collegiate soccer. He finished second in the conference with 32 total points this season.

O’Neill, a Dublin, Ireland, native, and Rinzema, a Brampton, Ontario native, were selected All-Conference after helping the Falcons post 11 shutouts this season. Rinzema and O’Neill each played a key role in helping Montevallo post four consecutive shutouts from Sept. 11-Sept. 26.

The quartet helped Montevallo capture its second Peach Belt Conference tournament championship in three years and helped the Falcons advance to the NCAA Division II men’s soccer tournament for the third consecutive season.
