CALERA – A contract employee was injured during an Argos Cement Plant accident in Calera Nov. 15.

“Four contract employees were completing plant maintenance activities on a large fan when the fan shaft broke free, injuring one contractor,” Argos USA Branding and Communications Manager Lindsay Bridges wrote in an email.

The contract employee, who works for G&R Mineral Services in Irondale, was transported to the UAB hospital.

The Mine Safety and Health Administration was notified, and the MSHA and Argos plant officials are conducting a full investigation, according to Bridges.

G&R Mineral Services reported the employee is “doing quite well” Nov. 19.

The Argos plant is located off Alabama 25 in Calera.
