MONTEVALLO – The University of Montevallo men’s basketball team pulled away in the second half for a 92-79 victory over Tennessee Wesleyan College in a non-conference game Nov. 20 at BankTrust Arena.

The Falcons picked up the 13-point win despite the Bulldogs’ 45 percent shooting from beyond the arc, which included a 7-of-1 4 performance in the opening half.

Montevallo, ranked No. 21 in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches NCAA Division II poll, answered by shooting 50 percent from 3-point range, 8-of-16, for the game.

Sophomore Troran Brown led the Falcons (2-1) with a career-high 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the floor. Brown added a career-high 12 assists as he posted his first double-double of the season.

Senior Drico Hightower tied his career-high with 20 points while pulling down a season-high 12 rebounds as he joined Brown with a double-double. Senior Marvin Fitzgerald contributed 16 points and eight rebounds in the win.

Senior Jonas Brown finished with 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field, including a 4-of-5 performance from beyond the arc. Sophomore Ryan May added eight points, while junior Silas Mills contributed seven points and six rebounds.

Tennessee Wesleyan knocked down 7-of-8 field goals in the first five minutes to jump out to a 17-10 lead early in the first half.

Jonas Brown drained a 3-pointer with 14:12 left in the opening half to give the Falcons an 18-17 lead, the Falcons’ first lead in the game.

May knocked down a 3-pointer with 4:20 left in the first half to give Montevallo its largest lead in the half at 42-33 before carrying a 48-43 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Montevallo led by as many as 19 points in the second half, the last time following a free throw by Troran Brown with 2:27 left in the game.

Montevallo returns to action Nov. 27 with a non-conference game at BankTrust Arena against Tuskegee University. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m.
