Possible explosive device at Heardmont Park found to be a hoax

UPDATED – Heardmont Park Sports Complex is reopened after local law enforcement officials discovered a possible explosive device was a hoax, according to a press release from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department.

Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a Shelby County 911 call about “suspicious package” at approximately 7 a.m. this morning. In addition to the sheriff’s deputies, Hoover and Pelham police officers and representatives of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the Federal Bureau of Investigations investigated the possible explosive device.

The device was found to be a hoax with no explosives present, according to the press release.

Herdmont Park, which is located on Cahaba Valley Road, also known as Highway 119, has been searched and re-opened to the public.
