Eagles down Walker in home opener

NORTH SHELBY – The Oak Mountain Eagles used consistent scoring throughout their home opener against the Walker Vikings to take a 53-36 victory Nov. 27.

“I thought for our first home game and being so excited in front of our home crowd we played well,” said Oak Mountain head coach Chris Love. “We executed when we had to and we handled their trap defense.”

The Eagles (5-1) scored at least 13 points per quarter in the victory.

Oak Mountain trailed by seven midway through the first quarter, but the Eagles went on a 9-1 run to take a 14-13 lead.

The Eagles pulled away with a 6-2 run early in the second followed with a 7-4 run at the end of the first half to take a 27-20 halftime lead.

Oak Mountain extended their lead to 40-30 in the third and held Walker to just one basket in the fourth to pick up the 53-36 victory.

Chris Marino led the Eagles with 13 points with Jake Grundhoefer adding 11 points. Deshawn Giles finished with 10 points.

Jonathan McCanis led Walker with nine points.
