COLUMBIANA – Artist Trina Stogner animatedly imitated famous artist Jackson Pollock’s unique painting style while teaching a group of about 10 kids during an after-school painting session at her new shop, Color Outside the Lines.

“I want canvases covered and abstract beauty all over the place,” Stogner told her students as she weaved around the kids flicking paint on their canvases.

Color Outside the Lines is located at the corner of Columbiana’s Main Street and College Street, in the heart of the city.

Stogner, a Columbiana native and art education major, spent the last 15 years in Louisiana, including 14 years holding painting parties, teaching art classes and creating her own art out of her home.

Color Outside the Lines offers home school and after school art lessons to children age 5 and above on Mondays and Tuesdays, which cost $12 per session. Stogner said she doesn’t charge a registration or supply fee.

“I think people here want to be creative,” she said. “This is an affordable, creative outlet.”

Stogner holds open paint nights on Thursday evenings, where anyone can paint on canvases ranging from $18-35.

“On open nights, I don’t have a minimum. I love small, intimate groups,” she said.

Stogner also offers “create parties,” where participants aren’t limited to painting, and she is willing to attempt any artistic endeavor, such as paintings, wreaths or candles. “If you can think of something you want to make, we’ll try it,” she said.

Stogner said she has 17 parties scheduled for December. She hosts birthday parties, “ice cream, you scream” parties with ice cream bars and painting lessons, and “cupcakes and canvas” parties at her business.

Starting in January, Stogner plans to hold open painting sessions on the first Thursday of the month at 10 a.m.

“It’ll be an uplifting time to get quiet and create something,” she said.

Color Outside the Lines is located at 101 South Main Street in Columbiana. For more information or to schedule a party, call or text Trina Stogner at (985) 516-5110.
