ALABASTER – The Kingwood Christian Lions jumped out to an early lead and ran away for a 68-30 win over rival Coosa Valley Dec. 6.

“We were able to get out on the fast break and had great rebounding,” said Kingwood head coach Danny Davis on the victory. “Our guards were able to get the ball out for us to finish in transition.”

Kingwood’s Daniel Fillingim opened the game with a three from the right wing, but Ryan Carroll brought Coosa Valley within one, 3-2.

That would be as close as the Rebels (3-3) would get. Kingwood (5-1) went on an 11-0 run, followed by a 9-0 run to take a 23-6 lead after the first quarter.

The Lions kept the fast paced offense going in the second quarter and went on a 13-0 run to take a 47-12 lead at the half.

Kingwood outscored Coosa Valley 20-18 in the second half with a running clock to take the 68-30 victory.

Josh Purvis led Kingwood with 16 points while Titus Adams scored 14 points. Fillingim and Jacob Bussey each finished with 10 points for the Lions.

Carroll led Coosa Valley with 11 points.
