Alabaster’s Creek View Elementary is set to install schoolwide wireless Internet after state Sen. Cam Ward, R-Alabaster, and the Alabaster City Council donated money to the project.

The school added the two donations to money raised by the CVES PTO to purchase the equipment necessary to install Wi-Fi network.

CVES Principal Brent Byars said bringing wireless Internet to the school will “allow for technology to be better incorporated into daily learning and lessons,” and will better prepare students for the technology they will have access to as they grow older.

Byars said the school currently relies on wired connections for Internet access.

CVES second-grade teacher Ashley Tilley said having access to wireless Internet will allow her to use resources she didn’t previously have.

“This is exciting to look forward to for both my students and for me,” Tilley said. “I will be able to engage them through many different resources that I haven’t been able to access before now.”

Byars said the Wi-Fi network should be installed and ready to access by spring 2013.

“I am thankful for the support and assistance provided to make wireless access a reality at Creek View,” Byars wrote in a press release. “Shelby County and our staff have a shared vision to integrate technology, and Wi-Fi only empowers them with additional tools to enhance student learning.”
