A Georgia man is being held in the Shelby County Jail and is awaiting extradition after a domestic violence call led to a fugitive from justice arrest on Dec. 28.

The Pelham Police Department responded to the Oak Mountain Lodge hotel off U.S. 31 after receiving a domestic violence report at about 12:45 a.m. on Dec. 28, said Pelham police Capt. Larry Palmer.

When officers arrived, they spoke to the caller, and found 41-year-old Marietta, Ga. resident Robert James Pangburn in the hotel’s parking lot a short time later.

Palmer said the caller did not press domestic violence charges against Pangburn, but officers charged the suspect with one count of misdemeanor public intoxication.

“While we were running his name through the system, we found out that he had a felony warrant out of Georgia,” Palmer said, noting the felony probation violation warrant was issued in Marietta, Ga.

After discovering Pangburn was wanted in Georgia, Pelham officers arrested him and transported him to the Shelby County Jail, where he was placed on a hold. Georgia law enforcement officials will now have a certain amount of time to pick up Pangburn and extradite him to Marietta, Ga.
