Chelsea holds off late Oak Mountain rally

The Chelsea Hornets took an early lead and was able to hold on despite a late fourth-quarter rally in a 52-46 Class 6A, Area 8 victory Jan. 15.

Chelsea took a 14-4 lead in the first quarter and held a 37-26 lead going into the fourth. Oak Mountain responded with a 20-point fourth quarter, including a 12-2 run in the last two minutes. The Hornets were able to withstand the rally to hold on for the win.

Malik Abrams led Chelsea with 15 points while Austin Washington finished with 11 points. Darrell Foster added 10 points for the Hornets.

Deshawn Giles led Oak Mountain with 15 points and Pierce Clarke added 10 points for the Eagles.
