Pelham Police have charged Jimmy Dawson Cunningham Jr. with the Jan. 14 robbery of the Union State Bank near the intersection of U.S. 31 and Alabama 119.

Cunningham was charged with one count of first-degree robbery on Jan. 16, and is being held in the Shelby County Jail on a $60,000 bond. According to Pelham police, other law enforcement agencies also have obtained robbery warrants on Cunningham.

“There are no additional suspects being sought in this case,” read a Pelham Police Department press release. “The fast action of several local, state and federal agencies brought this investigation to a quick and safe conclusion.”

The charge came one day after Pelham police announced they had taken Cunningham into custody in connection with the Jan. 14 incident.

No injuries were reported in the robbery. At about 10:15 a.m. on Jan. 14, the Pelham Police Department received a report of an alarm at the Union State Bank at 2267 U.S. 31, said police Capt. Larry Palmer.

After responding to the scene, officers learned a white male had entered the bank, presented a note to a teller and fled the scene with an undetermined amount of cash, Palmer said.

Palmer said a weapon “was implied but never seen” during the robbery.
