Montevallo pair named preseason All-Conference

AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of Montevallo senior Austin Dubberly and junior Will Fulmer were each selected to the preseason All-Peach Belt Conference baseball team, which was announced by the conference office Jan. 25.

Dubberly, a 5-foot-10 shortstop who started all 53 games for the Falcons last season, earns his second conference honor after being named to the All-Peach Belt Conference squad following his sophomore season in 2011.

Last season, Dubberly batted .280 with one homer and 28 RBIs while finishing with 10 extra-base hits, including eight doubles. Dubberly also led the team with eight stolen bases in nine attempts.

Dubberly was named to the Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Team.

Dubberly started 39 games as a sophomore and batted .352 with 159 base hits, including nine extra-base hits. Dubberly was also named American Baseball Coaches Association second team All-Southeast Region following the 2011 season.

Fulmer, who was recently named to the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper NCAA Division II Southeast Region All-American team, enters the 2013 campaign fresh off a record-setting season in 2012.

Fulmer started all 53 games for the Falcons last season, setting a new Peach Belt Conference record with 52 hits during conference games. The 5-foot-10 second baseman led the Falcons with a .361 batting average as he finished with a team-high 16 doubles, one homer and 28 RBIs. Fulmer also finished with a .443 on base percentage and stole seven bases last season.

Following the 2012 season, Fulmer was named first team All-Peach Belt Conference and second-team All-Southeast Region by three separate organizations, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, Daktronics and American Baseball Coaches Association.

Montevallo opens the 2013 season Feb. 1-3 with a three-game series on the road at Saint Leo University. First pitch for the opening game of the season is set for Friday, Feb. 1 at 5 p.m. CST.
