Robert E. Kiker Sr., known to his friends as Bob or Ponnie, passed from this world on Jan. 25, 2013. He never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a hand. He was born in Wenonah on Sept. 6, 1931. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he played football at West End High School and briefly at Auburn University after serving in the Marines during the Korean War. He enjoyed playing baseball, softball and refereed high school football for 10 years. He retired from Alabama Trailer and career in sales in 1995. His happy fun-loving nature will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Even as he became ill, he was often a bright spot in the day of his doctors and caregivers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, H. W. Kiker Sr. and Luda Lee Kiker.
Mr. Kiker is survived by his wife and the love of his life, “Mary” “Detsy” Kiker; son, Robert Kiker Jr.; and daughter, Mary Beth Kiker Moses; seven grandchildren, Brad Kiker, Adam Kiker, Kristie Sims, Kimberly Kiker, Autumn Kiker, Emily Moses and Jacob Moses; one great-granddaughter, Anna Margaret Kiker; son-in-law, Mark Moses; daughter-in-law, Karen Kiker; and brother, Herbert W. Kiker of Springfield, Va.
The visitation will be Jan. 29 from 5-7 p.m. at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at the funeral home on Jan. 30 at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Sylvan Springs Fire & Rescue, 300 Town Hall Drive, Sylvan Springs, AL 35118.
