No. 7 Coosa Valley ends regular season with win

HARPERSVILLE – The Coosa Valley Academy Lady Rebels ended the regular season with a 46-21 win over South Montgomery County Academy Jan. 28.

The Lady Rebels (15-4) started the game on a 7-0 run and ended the first quarter on a 11-0 run to take a 22-4 lead after the first eight minutes of play.

Coosa Valley made a lineup change in the second quarter and SMCA took advantage. The Lady Raiders outscored Coosa Valley 8-3 in the quarter led by Haylee Hollingshead’s six points from the free throw line. Despite being outscored, the Lady Rebels held on for a 25-12 lead at the half.

The Lady Rebels opened the second half on a 10-0 run to pull away for the win. Coosa Valley outscored SMCA 18-2 in the third to take a 44-14 advantage into the fourth.

South Montgomery outscored Coosa Valley 7-0 in the first three minutes of the fourth, but the Lady Rebels were able to shutout the Lady Raiders in the final five minutes to take the 46-21 victory.

Danielle Richardson led Coosa Valley with 16 points, 13 steals and five assists. Kaylan Rich added 15 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks. Terrie Sprayberry finished with 10 rebounds.
