MONTEVALLO – University of Montevallo junior Will Fulmer added another preseason honor Jan. 31 after being named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region team.

Fulmer, who was selected to the preseason All-Peach Belt Conference team earlier in the week, was named third-team All-Southeast Region by the NCBWA.

Fulmer was also named to the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Southeast Region All-American team Jan. 7.

Fulmer enters the 2013 campaign fresh off a record-setting season in 2012.

Fulmer started all 53 games for the Falcons last season, setting a new Peach Belt Conference record with 52 hits during conference games. The 5-foot-10 infielder led the Falcons with a .361 batting average as he finished with a team-high 16 doubles, one homer and 28 RBIs. Fulmer also finished with a .443 on base percentage and stole seven bases last season.

Fulmer’s 79 total hits during the 2012 season ranked him No. 5 among Peach Belt Conference hitters and No. 22 among NCAA Division II leaders a year ago. His .361 batting average ranked him No. 7 among hitters in the Peach Belt Conference last season.

Following the 2012 season, Fulmer was named first team All-Peach Belt Conference and second-team All-Southeast Region by three separate organizations, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, Daktronics and American Baseball Coaches Association.

Fulmer and his teammates will open the 2013 season Feb. 1-3 with a three-game series on the road at Saint Leo University in Saint Leo, Fla.

The Falcons will send senior right-handed pitcher Michael Shreves (5-4, 4.93 ERA last season) to the mound for the season opener Friday, Feb. 1. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. CST.

Junior right-hander Edward Brandsema (2-0, 5.03 ERA last season) will start the second game of the series Saturday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. CST. Junior left-hander Josh Clemen, a junior college transfer, will make his first career start for the Falcons in the final game of the series Sunday, Feb. 3 at 10 a.m. CST.
