Westminster captures state runner-up trophy

Westminster School at Oak Mountain, ranked the fourth smallest school in the AHSAA, rose to the challenge on Feb 1-2 at the Crossplex in Birmingham and set 3 AHSAA records, broke 9 school records, set 25 personal records and the boys team brought home the Alabama State 4A-1A Indoor Track runner-up championship trophy.

Andrew Carrell won the 60m hurdles (8.60s) setting a new AHSAA record. Andrew, his younger brother Jake, Scott Landers, and Garrett Smith won gold with in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:40.81 (just over a second off the state record). The 4x800m relay (Andrew, Jake, Scott, and Ethan Shaw) placed 3rd (bronze), and the 4x200m relay (Joshua Moore, Collin Thomas, Joshua Lipperd, and Garrett Smith) placed 6th.

For the girls, Katie Brooks Boone won the 60m (7.75s) and the 400m (58.36s) setting AHSAA state records. Maddie Hoagland scored for the team with an 8th place finish in the 3200m run. The girl’s 4x800m relay (Maddie, Camilla Lemons, Lauren Hoagland, and Rachel Faulk) placed 7th.
