George William (Bill) Seale

Columbiana

George William (Bill) Seale, age 86, of Columbiana passed away on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013.

Bill was a life-long resident of Shelby County. He attended Wilsonville Elementary School and graduated from Shelby County High School in 1944. Immediately after graduation he joined the United States Army and spent the remainder of the war in the Pacific Theater, concluding his service as part of the occupational forces in Korea.

Bill was civic minded throughout his life, having served as a member of the Columbiana City Council for 22 years. He was a faithful member of the Columbiana United Methodist Church and served in many lay leadership positions. Bill was in the oil and gasoline distribution business for 34 years, owning a Standard Oil/Chevron distributorship. He retired in 1980 and began working part time over the next 15 years as a courier for the First National Bank of Columbiana.

Bill enjoyed gardening, crappie fishing and discussing local politics and sports at Davis Drug Store. Bill had a kindhearted spirit and was caring to friend and stranger alike.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Tracy Seale and Nellie Church Seale, brothers Clyde Seale, Howard Seale and Thomas Seale. He is survived by his wife of almost 57 years, Carol; sons; Tom Seale (Brenda) of Columbiana, Ken Seale (Kay) of Moulton and Jeff Seale (Cindy) of Huntsville; six grandchildren: Andrew (Catie), Virginia, Sara, Jared, Jonathan and Jason Seale and brother, John Michael Seale (Marguerite) of Tuscaloosa.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Columbiana United Methodist Church, with a memorial service beginning at 11 a.m.
