JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of Montevallo junior Conner Godsey captured his second individual tournament championship this season after carding a 2-under par 140 in the Spring Kick-Off Intercollegiate tournament Feb. 11-12 at Fleming Island Golf Club.

Godsey, who finished one stroke ahead of second-place finishers Anders Olsson of Georgia Southwestern State University and Nick Brothers of Saint Leo University, also won the Falcons’ Full Moon Bar-B-Que Invitational last September. Godsey came in second overall in individual standings after a one-hole playoff in the Indian Bayou Classic last October.

Godsey posted an even par 71 in the opening round of the tournament Feb. 11. The Rogersville, Ala. native capped the tournament with a 2-under par 69 in the final round Feb. 12.

Godsey, who finished the tournament with four birdies, posted an eagle on the back nine in his final round to help him stay ahead of his competition.

The Montevallo men’s golf team finished seventh in team standings after carding a 23-over par 591 in the Spring Kick-Off Intercollegiate tournament, hosted by Wingate University and Lincoln Memorial University. Georgia Southwestern  State University won the tournament with a score of 3-over par 571.

“Overall it was a decent start to the season,” said Montevallo coach Justin Pratt. “We struggled in the second round capitalizing on good shots and good play early in the round and couldn’t get any momentum going. We still need to find more contribution and more consistent play from a couple of players at each event. If we can do that and improve a little each tournament, we should be playing pretty good golf near conference and NCAA tournament time.”

Freshman Juan Noce, who finished 21st in individual standings, shot a 6-over par 148 in the tournament.

Senior Andrew Lowry posted a 9-over par 151 in the two-day tournament, which placed him 35th overall in individual standings. Freshman Dalton Skinner finished one stroke behind Lowry with a score of 10-over par 152, which placed him 39th overall in individual standings.

Freshman Daniel Schroder rounded out the group of Montevallo golfers with his 47-over par 189, which placed him 88th in individual standings.

The Falcons return to action March 4-5 at the Samford University Intercollegiate tournament, hosted by Hoover Country Club.
