Chelsea begins season with victory over Holtville

The Chelsea Hornets opened the 2013 baseball season with a 6-0 win over the Dawgs of Holtville High Feb. 18.

Chelsea struck first scoring two runs in the first inning off of a leadoff single by junior Jacob Green. David Shoemaker drove in Green with a triple off of the centerfield wall. The Hornets added two runs in the second and two more in the fourth. Chelsea was led offensively by Senior Davis Shoemaker who was 2-for-3 on the night with a triple and two RBIs. James Calhoun was 2-for-4 on the night with two RBIs.

Senior and University of South Alabama signee, Tripp Hobbs was very impressive on the mound for the Hornets. Hobbs carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning but his bid was broken up when Gray Geddy singled to center field with one out in the 6th. Hobbs pitched a seven inning complete-game giving up two hits, no runs with one walk and four strikeouts.
